I'm going to a work event and wearing a cocktail dress and strappy dress sandals. I've always worn stockings with a cocktail dress. What's the rule about stockings with sandal type of shoes?

I prefer pantyhose/stockings as opposed to creepy (IMO) bare white legs. Depends on what you consider sandle type shoes (are you talking strappy high heeled?)

No pantyhose or stockings with strappy sandals. If you must wear stockings, then wear closed shoes.

I believe they do have hose that is open toed stockings to wear with sandals. I think if you have open toed sandals, it does not look proper to have full hose. I would add that there are some instances bare legs are just as odd and not everyone wants their legs to be bare.

They do have hose for open toed shoes but they really only look good with peep toe shoes not strappy sandals. Some of the self tanners work well and fast if the issue is your legs are too white.

It depends how dressy the work event is. If you are wearing a black cocktail dress and strappy sandals then wear a shear black hose with it. I think a black cocktail dress with sandals w/o hose looks too casual and the look isn't pull together quite right. The one exception would be really tan legs and a casual cocktail party in warmer weather (no hose) It all depends on the cocktail dress, if it's a light color then a strappy sandal would probably be ok w/o hose. Also, is this a long or short dress ? One time I went to a semi formal party in the summer and bought a beautiful black cocktail dress. I intended on wearing with hose, however, the night of the party was really hot. I couldn't decide, the dress didn't look that great w/o hose. I ended up wearing hose and was really glad I did.

There is actually toeless hose. Not so-called "sandal foot" which just looks bad, but hose that stops in the middle of your feet so your legs are covered but your toes are bare. http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/d...iery?ID=562087 If you *have* to wear hose, I'd go with that. But don't wear regular hose with sandals, period.
